Each of the children on the railing represents a different field of labor in order of perceived importance at the time. The docent said, “it is artsy after all.” Engineers, hunters, and winemakers were the top three most important professions.
Next is Thomas Jefferson’s personal library which was sold to Congress for $23,950. The library was arranged into three categories, Memory, Reason, and Imagination.
The books in the display case are from the 1500’s.
